Clapp Pears under cultivation by Scott Beaton and Wynne Wienreb At Jerzy Boyz Orchard in Chelan, Washington

After learning that a disease in 1900 killed many East Coast pear trees, Laura conducted research on Clapp Pears at family owned and operated Jerzy Boyz Organic Farm in Chelan, Washington. Baring-Gould worked with Scott Beaton and Wynne Wienrab to learn about pear cultivation and horticulture. Each day Baring-Gould collected specimens of Clapp Pears and made molds of over 50 selected pear forms to bring back to her Somerville studio to use as a basis for the large sculpture.
