Laura Baring-Gould working at Asia Fine Arts Foundry (Ayutthaya, Thailand) adjusting codfish scales on the wax sculpture of the Fish artwork, with the final sculpture in bronze

To create the sculpture, Baring-Gould made rubber molds of the cod and alewife fish. Wax positives were generated from the molds, and details such as fins, eyes and scales were added to fully render each fish. Mussels, seaweed and other marine elements collected from the Massachusetts Bay were also used in making the preliminary sculpture, which was then cast into bronze.
