Young girl with bronze sculpture of the Three Sisters

This artwork honors the stewardship of land and community by Dorchester’s first residents and those who cultivate the land today. The piece features a center bronze still-life of corn, beans and squash with two quotes collected by Baring-Gould:

The first quote, “Three Sisters, a gift from Creator brought by Crow” (Traditional Algonquin history) was contributed by Gil Solomon, leader and Sachem of the Ponkapaog Tribal Council.

The second quote:, “On this farm we create life to create a better life for Others” (Youth, The Food Project, 2005) gives a teenager’s perspective of his experience working with urban youth to transform city lots into urban farms which provide fresh food to local residents.
