Objects of community importance: a ceramic bowl for cooling milk from the early 1800’s (City of Boston Archaeology Department), and cakes with community peace portraits of Dorchester youth killed in homicide, 2004 (Bobby Mendez Peace Legacy Parade)

Laura Baring-Gould also worked with many historical groups and community organizations to investigate objects that were important to Dorchester citizens, past and present. During her search, she was particularly interested in finding common objects that were used by people across time and culture, which would reveal enduring community values and reflect personal experience. These objects and the themes they evoke, became the foundation for the artworks now in the square.
