Pieces of decorated sheet cake under consideration (corner piece or middle?) for the bronze artwork which celebrates different traditions of cake and community gathering

In her community research, Baring-Gould noticed that cake played a key role at many Dorchester events and celebrations: the long-standing tradition of celebrating children’s birthdays with cake at Little House Alternative School, the large sheet cakes often present at Civic Association events, and the cakes which honor loved ones killed by homicide served at the annual Bobby Mendez Peace Parade. On many occasions, a piece of cake comes to represent personal and community acknowledgement and support.
