Dorchester Clapp pear as new community landmark

The Dorchester Clapp Pear artwork has become a great community landmark. Visitors and residents alike congregate at the sculpture, and neighbors provide directions by saying “Turn at the Pear”. For many, the artwork has inspired renewed interest in Dorchester’s history, and others have become interested in local agricultural or ways that artwork can encourage local participation. Students on the right were part of an Earth works program which planted fruit trees at the Dorchester Historical Society. For others, the artwork has helped to mark this once anonymous intersection and created a point of local interest and curiosity.
